Our specialist horticultural nursery was started over a century ago by James Blackmore and Charles Langdon from their intererest in Begonias and Delphiniums.
The first task they undertook at the specialist horticultural nursery by creating hybrids of these teo plants and created some of the best varieties that coulb be found in the United Kingdom at that time. During their years working here they taught their sons the skills needed to tend and create flowers and plants to ensure that the skills never died and their sons passed the skills onto the next generation.
We are now still run by the Blackmore and Langdon families and are in fact in the fourth generation. Although our founders favourite flowers Begonias and Delphiniums are the main flowers that are sold here at the horticultural nursery this wouldn't be sufficient for us to run as a viable business in this day and age so we have added a range of other plants that are perfect for cottage gardens and everyday common gardens such as carnations, lillies and herbaceous plants. Over the years though some of these have disappeared from out nursery and have been replaced with the more popular polyanthus, phlox and gloxinias.
At our nursery there have been many different changes over the years the main change being moving from the original base in bath and moving to the new specialist nursery with larger grounds and better facilities in Pensford where we have been for the past thirty years. Our forefathers started off by selling to gardeners who worked for large estates as that was the norm in those days and very few people apart from the upper class used to have gardens that needed tending.
